Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna inaugurated Kranti Mela at Pithsen in Pauri District organized in memory of freedom Fighter Veer Chandra Singh 'Garhwali' on Monday. He paid floral tribute at the statue of 'Garhwali' and said that the Nation would remain grateful to him for raising the voice against British Rule.
Chief Minister Bahuguna said that state government would further strengthen the development schemes being run in his name. He said that Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Tourism Self Employment Scheme would be further improved so that the local youths get more employment opportunities out of it. Mr. Bahuguna said that the State Government was committed towards the welfare of the common man. He said that the government was planning to implement various development schemes for the hill areas according to their needs viz. location at border areas, geographical difficulties and backwardness which would ensure their overall and better development. The Government had chalked out solid plan for the development of the state under which special schemes would be implemented in sectors like tourism, power and horticulture. He said that the Annual Plan was of Rs. 900 crore in the previous Congress rule which has increased to Rs. 8,000 crore. He said that during previous Congress regime, Uttarakhand was considered among leading states in 20- Point Program; however, its present condition was not satisfactory. It is our endeavour to bring the state back to the main stream of development, he said. The Chief Minister asserted that corruption would not be tolerated at any level and transparency would be maintained in Tourism and PWD programs. Stating that quality would be maintained in all construction works, he urged the people to keep an eye on all development works going on in their respective areas and report about irregularities to Chief Minister Office.
Garhwal MP and Chairman Defence Standing Committee Satpal Maharaj apprised the Chief Minister about the problems existing in his parliamentary area to which the Chief Minister too agreed. Mr. Satpal Maharaj disclosed that 30,000 scientists had been encouraged by him in DRDO after he took over as Chairman of the Committee. He said that the State would move ahead towards the new path of development under present Congress Government.
Local MLA Ganesh Godiyal welcomed the Chief Minister and said that the state would make all-round development under his leadership. He also apprised the Chief Minister about existing local problem and put forward demand for a degree college in Ufrailkhal, College of Centre of Excellence at Thalsen, 20 English medium schools in Srinagar and setting up Polytechnic institutes in Thalisen in PPP mode to which the Chief Minister assured to do the needful. Also present on the occasion were District Panchayat Vice Chairman Shiv Singh Gusain, District Congress Committee President Govind Singh Rawat, Vijay Rawat, Commissioner Garhwal Division Kunal Sharma and District Magistrate Chandresh Yadav amongst others.
