The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Jitendra Singh has said that in order to make Sangathan more effective and objective -oriented as well as to strengthen the movement of Youth Clubs, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) prepares its Annual Action Plan every year after several consultative meetings with field functionaries of NYKS and officials of Ministry.
After necessary approvals, the Action Plan is circulated in the field for implementation. For successful implementation of programmes in the approved Action Plan , NYKS prepares guidelines which are issued to the field functionaries for compliance.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today Shri Jitendra Singh said, NYKS has, over the years, expanded its administrative network and currently has 623 District Nehru Yuva Kendras (NYKs) covering all States/UTs of the Country.
The Minister said, the core strength of NYKS is a network of 2.62 lakh village-level Youth Clubs with membership of about 80 lakh youth. In addition, there are about 10,550 National Youth Corps(NYC) volunteers (with presence in all Rural Development Blocks), with whose assistance and participation, NYKS seeks to achieve its objectives. These volunteers motivate the Youth Clubs to undertake various activities for youth development and empowerment.
Shri Jitendra Singh said, currently, NYKS focuses on the areas like Skill Development, Women Empowerment, Eradication of Poverty, Civic Education, Social Issues, Environment Enrichment, Hygiene & Sanitation, Health Education, Volunteerism, Leadership development, etc.
Through its Core Programmes under Annual Action Plan. Programmes under the Scheme of National Programme for Youth and Adolescent Development (NPYAD) and Programmes taken up in collaboration with other Ministries/Agencies.
The total resources received/mobilized by NYKS for its various activities has increased from Rs. 68.22 crores in 2002-03 to Rs. 198.44 crores in 2012-13 indicating substantial expansion in activities of NYKS.
The Minister said, to further improve the activities of Sangathan, a holistic management study of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) was also entrusted to Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad in the year 2008 and the major recommendations of the study have been implemented.
The Programmes and Activities of NYKS are taken as per decisions of the Board of Governors of NYKS, where the Ministry is represented.
The Ministry provides necessary support and guidance to NYKS, as and when necessary, to enable them to carry out their activities in an effective manner for achievement of the objectives for which the Organisation has been set up, Shri Jitendra Singh added.
